My name is Chuck Boblitz, and my main interest is the life of the common man in the mid to late 18th century.
I have spent many years exploring, hiking, camping, horseback riding, canoeing, shooting black powder firearms and hunting. I have also devoted over 30 years to the Boy Scouts of America, as either a youth or adult leader.
In the early 1980's, I purchased a book called Foxfire 5. In it was a section covering Gunmaking and Flintlocks Rifles which featured an interview with a young Hershel House. This book kicked off my interest in Black Powder shooting. Later on this interest coupled with my outdoor and Scouting background took me down yet another path. I became interested in 18th century American history, how our ancestors lived on the fringes of the frontier and survived in the wilds of a new world.
Part of this interest includes "Experimental Archeology" which was brought to the forefront by individuals such as Mark A. Baker, who writes for Muzzelloader magazine. He has also written 3 books entitled Sons of the Trackless Forest (out of print) and A Pilgrims Journey (Volumes 1 & 2). Mr. Baker has also worked as an adviser to Mel Gibson on "The Patriot", and Daniel Day Lewis during the filming of "Last of the Mohicans".
I'm not part of any reenacting group, as my focus is not in the military actions of the 18th century, nor do I profess to be a history expert. I'm someone who is called an Historical Trekker (one who likes to "learn and grow by doing").
During my research and trips, I have visited sites such as Fort Niagara, Williamsburg, Fort Loudoun and Fort Frederick. My family and I have attended events like the 18th Century Market Fair at Fort Frederick, the GNAR, Eastern Primitive Rendezvous, and I have witnesses performances by Steven Y. Caudill and Mel Hankla.
I have also visited with people like Hershel, John, Frank and Lally House, Robert Griffing, Art DeCamp, David Wright, Pamela Patrick White and Bryant White. These are all top notch people who willingly share their talents and time with everyone they meet.
Living in the outdoors, similar to how ancestors did during the 18th century, has challenged my skills to their fullest, but the rewards have been many. To that means, I like to share what I have learned so far with others. Please take a moment to look at the information on this site concerning my free program called "Into the Wilderness".
Thanks to each of you for visiting my site.
